The game of golf started humbly in Scotland some five centuries ago, and has spread across the globe like wildfire ever since. Not that this will come as a shock to anyone who has paid a visit to our northern cousins in Canada, but that country is chock-full of civil, respectful folks who welcome us Yankees with unfettered warmth and grace. I just spent a long weekend in British Columbia, passing through Vancouver on the way to Whistler, the splendorous site of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Foxwoods Resort

Twenty-five years ago, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation opened a bingo hall on their reservation near Ledyard, Connecticut. Since then the nation has become an empire. Whenever my wife and I travel, we spend part of the trip discussing where we're going next. This has the effect of extending the vacation as we're always in planning mode, thinking about where we are as well as where we'll be.

It makes life one long holiday.

I've been thinking about where I've been the last few years and where I want to go, my personal "bucket lists." Keeping them helps me stay in the vacation spirit year-round. What follows are my favorite places, a very subjective list that I hope will get you to start thinking where to go next.
